Sony Ericsson S312

Sony Ericsson S312

Budget phones generally come in various shades of bland, but there are some that try to take their aesthetics in a different direction. The S312 is afflicted with these aspirations.

Yes, a term like ‘afflicted’ may sound a tad negative, but then we’re not all that convinced by some of the Sony Ericsson S312’s design choices.

In form, the phone is utterly conventional – not in a bad way either, being reasonably slim and very pocket-friendly. Unfortunately, it skips off the comfort of the well-trodden path with the gold rings that encircle the main select button and the camera lens on the back.

Sadly, they look rather tacky and cheap rather than bringing the intended luxury element to the S312. If you’re not averse to the shade used in the blue version of the S312, we’d suggest picking that version up since it exchanges the gold for a shade of easier that’s easier on the eye.

Next comes the strange, mirrored effect on the screen. This makes it look like the top half of the phone is one single, metallic blob when there’s nothing on the screen. Although not as universally offensive as the gold rings, this also seems to make the screen look more washed out than it might otherwise be.

The display itself isn’t terrible, being a lot easier on the eye than some even lower-end Sony Ericsson handsets, but the 176x220 pixel resolution doesn’t make text look particularly sharp, as you can easily see individual pixels.

Sony Ericsson C510

Sony Ericsson announced several new phones yesterday and we managed to snatch the Sony Ericsson C510 Cyber-shot and Sony Ericsson W715 Walkman for quick and dirty hands-on session. Now those two are certainly not final retail versions, so we won't be putting them through our full reviewing routine. Just remember - this is a short preview, not a full-blown review article.

The Sony Ericsson W715 Walkman is a Wi-Fi/GPS-enabled slider made exclusively for Vodafone. It's is practically identical to the Sony Ericsson G705 that we already reviewed.

sony ericsson k790i
Sony Ericsson, in India, is doing really well with all its latest models. One of its prime models that brought about this transition was the "K" series. It started of with the K700, continued with the K750i which is very popular, and now with the rapid price-drops; it sure is a best-buy for a budget-conscious with dough to shell out. The K750i was accepted so well all over that there were many versions that sprung from it. To be very precise, there were three versions but all of the three come with the Walkman branding; W800, W810, and the latest W700. There are minor changes which make them different from one another, but these phones are the result of modifications of the K750i.

After all that major success, Sony Ericsson released the K790i, which is quite similar to the internationally available K800. The only difference between the two is that of video conference available in K800 and EDGE that is available in K790i. The K790i is a killer and has all the brilliance of continuing the trend of Sony Ericsson's "K" series. Read on to find out how fatal the K790i really is. Bundle The K790i comes bundled with the following accessories:- Sony Ericsson K790i Headset HPM-70 (Walkman earplugs) Sony Memory M2 (64 MB) Memory Stick Pro Adaptor Charger Data Cable CD & Manual

Sony Ericsson C905

High megapixel count is the rage these days and Sony Ericsson C905 is adding fuel to the fire. The first 8 megapixel GSM cameraphone to make headlines is shipping as we speak. On top of geotagging, Smart Contrast, face detection, and xenon flash, the elaborate camera-centric outfit hides the extra sweet Wi-Fi, GPS and turn-by-turn voice guided navigation. Is it us, or are cameraphones and smartphones alike lining up to negotiate a truce with Sony Ericsson C905?

The Cyber-shot squad has its trustworthy captain and its job is to keep spirits high in the face of cut-throat competition by Samsung and LG. Is it just us, or isn't Nokia missing quite some action here?

Sony Ericsson Idou

Sony Ericsson Idou

Sony Ericsson has finally launched the Satio, the phone it showed off back in February under the guise of Idou, packing the best of all its brands into one phone. But can the sheer range of gadgetry and a new OS be enough to lure customers back to the brand?

Not content with being leaders in cameraphone and multimedia technology, Sony Ericsson has decided to put the two Walkman and Cybershot brands together in the new Satio. This means an industry-leading camera, a full range of multimedia playback options and it's based on Symbian S60 5th edition to boot.

The overall feel of the handset is odd. Thanks to the sheer range of camera-related gadgetry on board the rear of the phone has a massive camera section bolted to the back, which makes it a little chunky.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

Sony Ericsson has produced some exceptional handsets over the years, with certain gems like the W950, W300i and W580i (just to name a few) catching the eyes and hearts of casual and hardcore mobile fanatics alike. Even so, it's hard to argue that any single phone in the outfit's history has caused more of a stir than the XPERIA X1. Sure, half of that is because we here in America have been waiting on the thing since February, but the other is due to pure, unadulterated sex appeal. 2008 has been a banner year for smart- / touchscreen-based handsets, and even though this one is lagging behind most of the other guys in terms of time to market, the X1 is still a formidable rival. We had a chance to spend a few quality days with the North America-bound X1a ($799.99; ships November 28th) -- which is different than the X1i that has already landed in certain parts of the globe -- and if you've come here looking for opinions, you haven't come in vain. Follow us past the break for a look at the pros, the cons and the middling minutiae of SE's slickest smartphone yet.
